The Certified Surgical Technician will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assistance during surgical procedures performed in the department. The Certified Surgical Technician is experienced in all aspects as aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; pulling cases for the following day’s cases; breaking down cases at the end of the procedure. He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The Certified Surgical Technician may act as a second circulator in the Operating Room and will function under the direction of the R.N. This role will entail duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. The surgical technician may come in contact with medications and therefore must demonstrate understanding of proper medication management and storage as well as maintaining a secure medication environment the certified operating room technician performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan for SRMC. Follows and supports SRMC policy and procedures. The operating room technician displays positive support for the values and mission of SRMC. Provides education on procedures, instrumentation, and equipment. Demonstrates advanced resource skills for equipment and instruments. Assists coordinators in case preparation, equipment needs (operating and capital requests) and preference card accuracy. Lead preceptor skills. Ability to function and precept in a minimum of two specialties (Total Joints, and Complex Spine). Call is required for position.

  Completion of Surgical Technologist Training Program
• State of Colorado Surgical Registry Required
• CST Certification from NBSTSA (preferred)
• 1 – 3 years experience preferred
• Advanced knowledge in the scrub role and responsibilities for multiple surgical specialties
• BLS
