CONVENTION CENTER EVENT MANAGER

NOTICE: The City Of Sharonville has a vacancy in the classification of Convention Center Event Manager. This is a full-time position.

WAGES AND BENEFITS: Wages and benefits are very competitive. The pay rate for newly hired employees will be based on skills, education, job knowledge, and abilities. The current pay range is $15.00 to $36.04 per hour. Paid vacation time, paid sick leave, an excellent retirement system, and other generous benefits will be discussed during the interview process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Each applicant must (1) be at least 18 years of age as of the final date for submission of applications for employment (see next paragraph), and (2) have attained a associate’s degree or equivalent work experience of at least two years of prior sales/event management and planning, preferably in a convention or hospitality industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality, Business Administration or a related field,
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible sales or event management experience,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver’s license; must maintain insurability as set forth by the City’s motor vehicle liability insurance requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for purposes of 42 USC 12101):

  • Assists clients in the planning, coordination, and implementation of all Convention Center events.
  • Initiates and maintains regular communication with clients, staff and vendors.
  • Qualifies and negotiates sales, contracts, and banquet event orders (BEO) by identifying client needs and providing recommendations.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with current and prospective clients; community stakeholders; and local, state, and national associations.
  • Performs sales presentations, producing creative projects and proposals.
  • Identifies sales leads; maintaining inquiries, prospect lists, and reports.
  • Communicates event information to all internal Convention Center departments and contractors.
  • Attends staff meetings with prepared event orders and sales leads.
  • Collaborates with other staff members to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Schedules and leads site tours of the facility.
  • Designs and ensures room setup and client profiles are completed and maintained for each event.
  • Monitors deadlines and provides proper notifications to clients and vendors.
  • Assists other staff members and manages event coverage.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attends meetings, seminars, and training sessions.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Abides by the Standards of Conduct as defined by City Administration.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Knowledge of: Operations, services, activities and policies pertaining to event management of a Convention Center; basic principles of supervision; occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions; basic arithmetic; working knowledge of computer systems and software, including Client Relationship Management (CRM) software; basic record-keeping and contract writing principles.
  • Skill in: Implementing event and sales solutions that support business and customer needs and enhances experiences; multi-tasking; problem-solving; time management; and written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to: Oversee the work of contract labor and staff members; interpret and apply policies and procedures; work independently in the absence of supervision; respond to sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy; communicate clearly and concisely; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work in a fast-paced environment; maintain a professional image; proactively address sales need; and evaluate and negotiate contracts.

Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered to be light work.
