Position Overview

The Teacher Assistant supports the Teacher and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.

Possibility of transitioning to Lead Teacher in the future.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Supervises children in their setting at all times.
  • Maintains a safe environment
  • Maintains an orderly learning environment
  • Provides a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities
  • Provides a balance between quiet and active learning activities
  • Uses equipment and materials for indoor play that promote children’s physical development
  • Involves children in planning and implementing learning activities
  • Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques
  • Communicates with children at their developmental level
  • Encourages children to be independent
  • Assesses program supplies and materials needed prior to implementing activities
  • Promotes the center’s philosophy and educational objectives
  • Supports the center’s code of ethical conduct, which is based on NAEYC’s Code of Ethical Conduct
  • Engages in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills
  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training as instructed by the Early Childhood Director

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
  • Climb up and down stairs
  • Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children
  • Work with children on the floor
  • Work outdoors in any variety of weather
  • Have visual and hearing capabilities that allow consistent supervision of children with Child Care Licensing safety requirements
  • Perform light duty cleaning

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
Staff are required to have received the COVID vaccine initial series plus one booster (unless medically exempt); documentation is required. Masking is optional unless there has been as exposure. Cleaning protocols are in place for staff to abide by.

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • Childcare: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • COVID vaccine card (Required)
