The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse is responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of the plan of care for management of patients with ostomies and continent diversions, potential or actual skin breakdown and acute or chronic wounds, and fecal or urinary incontinence. The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse is a consultant role responsible for education of the patient and staff development. The WOCN is a specialty nurse role that adheres to current standards of care and practice, changing technology, educational opportunities, and identified quality improvement activities. The maintenance of clinical proficiency is a must and direct patient care is included in this role as needed.
- BSN required, Minimum One Year Nursing Experience, Current Alabama RN licensure, BCLS, Completion of accredited WOCN and ET Nurse Educational Program required. Certification in specialty area within 2 years of WOCNEP completion required. Must be clear and concise in oral and written communication. Must function as a manager of their own practice. Must demonstrate talent for interdisciplinary collaboration, teamwork and working well with others. Must demonstrate a positive attitude and mental toughness in challenging situations. Registered Nurse (RN) License, Basic Life Support (BLS)
