Summary:

The Brooks Program provides short-term housing services to families experiencing homelessness in Washington, DC. The building contains 50 units and is in Northwest DC. The program follows a Housing First model philosophy and utilizes best practices to ensure participants can be transitioned out of short-term family housing to independent housing within 90 days. The Shift Supervisor will ensure the smooth operation of each shift and provide oversight of the residential and subcontractor staff on site.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides onsite supervision of the residential staff to ensure each shift runs smoothly.
  • Provide onboarding and training for new residential staff.
  • Provides appropriate oversight of the participants and reenforces program policies.
  • Provides an efficient and safe working environment for participants, employees, and visitors. This includes ensuring spills are attended to and universal precautions are utilized.
  • Perform and/or oversee the intake process of new families entering the program during their shift. This includes reviewing, explaining, and providing each family with a copy of the program rules during intake and reviewing the rights and responsibilities with the families.
  • Provide a shift report at the end of the shift and ensure that all pertinent information is properly communicated.
  • Ensure that all residential aides on shift complete shift documentation before the shift ends. This includes reviewing their shift logs, unusual incident reports (UIR’s), and other shift documentation.
  • Maintain and post the weekly floor assignment for the residential staff on assigned shift.
  • Provides de-escalation services to the participants as needed and ensure the safety and well-being of all staff and residents, including contacting onsite security, Mobile Crisis, and/or CHAMPS as necessary.
  • Properly communicate urgent matters to the appropriate on-call manager if after regular business hours.
  • Ensures noise within the facility is kept at a minimum during quiet hours.
  • Ensures all staff always remain awake and alert
  • Report any maintenance issues to Operations Leadership by following the established protocol.
  • Receive deliveries and ensure items are properly stored in their respective areas. This includes facility supplies and daily meal service deliveries.
  • Assist the Assistant Operations Manager in maintaining the facility inventory. This includes properly communicating when supplies need being replenished.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Background & Qualifications:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience working in a residential or shelter setting.
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with families and/or youth and knowledge of child development and child welfare is preferred.
  • Provides excellent customer service and demonstrates reliability.
  • The ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Demonstrate empathy when responding to participants' needs and requests.
  • Use best practices including trauma informed care, verbal judo and other de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Ability to remain calm, collected, and professional under stress.
  • Punctuality and ability to work independently.
  • Experience with computer programs, including but not limited to Microsoft office 365 or similar.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to mission, organizational core values including racial equity and social justice.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

Position will spend time between open desk settings and roving the occupied STFH floors and grounds of The Brooks. Position will view security camera and footage. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Walking 70% of the time, bending at the knees, standing for extended periods of time.

The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check including FBI, Police background check (of the jurisdictions in which they have resided for the five years prior to employment) Child and Family Services Agency (CSFA) Child Protection Register/ DC Child Abuse Registry, and National Sex Offender Registry Department(s) of the jurisdictions in which they have resided for the five years prior to employment; Drug and Alcohol testing and TB testing.

  • Compensation: The hiring pay range is between $19.67 – $22.80 per hour. Depending on the position, the starting hourly pay rate or annual salary is based on a step system. A candidate’s starting pay determination is made based on meeting the basic position requirements, and current completed education, credentials and/or work experience. Please Note: The step system is set and not open to pay negotiation. Before moving forward in the selection process, interested applicants are encouraged to discuss starting pay eligibility with the Human Resources (Talent) Department.
