Bowhead seeks to network with a Senior Technical Writer to join our team in supporting our Marine Corps customers in Stafford, Va.
The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for creating high-quality technical documentation, user manuals, guides, and other written materials to support the use and understanding of complex technical products and services. The Senior Technical Writer works closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts, to gather information and translate technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, reference guides, release notes, and online help, for complex technical products and services
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts, to gather information and understand complex technical concepts, and translate them into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation
- Conduct thorough research to gather and verify technical information, ensuring accuracy and reliability of the documentation
- Edit, proofread, and revise documentation to ensure consistency, clarity, accuracy, and adherence to documentation standards and style guides
- Create and maintain documentation templates, standards, and style guides to ensure consistency and quality across all documentation
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technical writers, reviewing their work and providing feedback to ensure quality and adherence to documentation standards
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather feedback on documentation and incorporate changes as needed to improve usability and effectiveness
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies to continuously improve documentation processes and standards
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or a related field
- 8 years of experience as a technical writer, with at least 5 years of experience in creating technical documentation for complex products or services
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely
- Knowledge of documentation tools, such as Adobe Technical Communication Suite, MadCap Flare, or similar tools
- Familiarity with software development methodologies and technical concepts, such as APIs, SDKs, and programming languages
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail, with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with content management systems, version control systems, and documentation workflows is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
