A position is open for a teacher to lead our Middle School Science classes. This person will team with a collaborative, hard-working, and experienced group of educators at St. Michael Catholic School. Since 1959, when a dedicated group of Notre Dame Sisters established St. Michael Catholic School, the school has demonstrated a commitment to the spiritual growth, academic excellence, and social development of thousands of children from preschool through grade eight.

Primary Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver thoughtful and effective lessons that engage students in meaningful learning appropriate for Middle School Science, while recognizing individual learning needs.
• Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning which supports St. Michael’s mission and provides optimal learning opportunities.
• Maintain an open line of communication with parents, students, colleagues, principal and all stakeholders of St. Michael School around academics, behavior, safety, and school events.
• Collaborate with colleagues in grade level departments and throughout school to develop and implement positive behavior expectations and relationships.
• Contribute to faith community of school through personal modeling and active participation, such as conducting prayer, participation in religious celebrations, and teaching Catholic values through word and example.
• Maintain appropriate and safe conduct in the classroom and throughout the campus ensuring student safety and supervision at all times.
• Be present, ready to work and on time to meet all schedules and responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Proven working experience as a teacher or educational assistant.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons with a focus on content that is aligned with the MN Academic Standards in Science.
• Interest in robotics programming
• Ability to assess for progress and identify areas where further learning is needed.
• Comfort with the use of a variety of activities and instructional methods to encourage children’s interests and motivation for learning.
• Strong ability to supervise children actively, monitor for potential injuries and to ensure food safety through a range of activities throughout the day.
• Successful completion of background check and VIRTUS certification.

Location:

St. Michael Catholic School is located in downtown Prior Lake, about 20 minutes from Bloomington and Burnsville.
