About Bunker Hill Public Housing and the Charlestown Resident Alliance

Built in 1940, the Bunker Hill Public Housing property is New England’s largest family public housing property, strategically located within a half mile of the Bunker Hill Monument. The area has been undergoing rapid gentrification even as the Bunker Hill property has long need substantial renovation.

Now it is on the cusp of being redeveloped, over the next 6-8 years, into 2,699 apartments: 1,000 Affordable apartments reserved for PH-eligible tenants, and 1,699 market. This transaction, with a projected total development cost of over $1.5 billion, is already being recognized as a landmark in multiple ways, including the important role the CRA has played in helping shape the vision for the new property.

CRA’s resident programming

CRA itself is building its staffing team and has launched several resident programs, with more expected to begin or to be expanded soon.
