Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Tactical Space Systems Division, seeks a qualified Principal Systems Engineer to support a space-to-ground communications network. This position is located in Dulles, VA and Colorado Springs, CO.

Systems Engineering responsibilities include:

  • Performing technical planning and analyses at all levels of total system product including: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.

  • The Systems Engineer ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • The role will include functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • The role may require assisting in new business activities such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies and may include authoring sections for both.

  • Successful candidates must be able to interface with clients, as well as interact regularly with internal engineering associates and program management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 5 years of experience; M.S. in STEM or related area and 3 years of experience; or a PhD in STEM

  • Systems engineering experience in one of more areas, such as requirements, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), verification & validation, interface management, test planning, readiness reviews, etc.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizenship with an active/current TS clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Space industry experience - Space domain/space vehicles, subsystems, and components

  • Radiofrequency (RF) and/or digital communications experience

  • Space-ground communications experience

  • Experience working in an Agile program team using methodologies such as Kanban or Scrum

  • MBSE requirements and architecture management (using DOORS and Cameo Systems Modeler)



Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
