Simcha Preschool has a forty-year history of being a play-based program, celebrating Jewish values and welcoming all families into a peace-loving, anti-biased, play-based, and developmentally appropriate environment.
We are seeking a committed, collaborative, creative, and compassionate ECE professional who is looking to grow in their early childhood education career. Our ideal candidate is able to keep up with the busiest of children and ask thought-provoking questions to our students, too. Music, art, and creative movement skills are a plus.
Duration: Year-round, full-time position (with possible health benefits after 60 days of employment); also seeking qualified substitute teachers
Start Date: February/March 2023
Qualifications:
- Teacher: completion of at least 12 ECE credits; even more is preferable
- An AA or BA (preferred) in ECE
- At least two to three years of ECE experience
- Resume’ including three professional references required

Detailed Job Description
Attendance:
· Minimize absences; be reliable in showing up to work.
· Arrive on time.
· Attend regular staff meetings, educational workshops, and in-service trainings provided by Simcha and in the community.
· If you need to take time off, find your own sub when ever possible.

Health & Safety:
· Maintain a safe classroom work environment that is clean and free of dangerous items.
· Regularly review and practice health and safety policies and procedures information found in the emergency binders in each classroom, in the family handbook, and in the Simcha Safety Policies & Emergency Procedures.
· Keep inventory of cleaning and first aid supplies; request needed supplies in a timely fashion.
Maintain and Implement Simcha’s Philosophy:
· Read and sign the annual Simcha Family Handbook, Simcha Education Handbook, Temple Beth El Employee Manual and Simcha Personnel Policies to create awareness of all policies of the school.
· Show knowledge of and promote Simcha’s philosophy and objectives in all your work with children, families, and co-workers.
· Respect confidential or personal information of families and co-workers.
Classroom Teacher Job Duties and Responsibilities
General Tasks:
· Perform set-up & clean-up tasks in accordance to written, posted and/or verbal guidelines.
· Supervise children with a global view at all times.
· Communicate with co-workers to understand the needs of the classroom and children and work together to create plans for how to best support.
· Support all teachers, parents, and volunteers working with you to also follow our expectations.
Supervising Children:
· Anticipate conflict situations and redirect them appropriately, promoting children’s problem-solving skills with guidance from adult when needed.
· Reinforce pro-social behavior in children, with positive adult modeling.
· Balance individual needs with whole group needs while supervising large groups.
Environment and Curriculum
Classroom Environment:
· Collaborate with co-teacher to plan for environmental set-up.
· Develop environments around children’s interests, cultivating children’s learning.
· Incorporate with co-teacher, appropriate Jewish cultural & anti-bias reflections in the environment.
· Keep professional classroom aesthetics in mind while planning your environment.
Curriculum and Documentation:
· As part of your teaching team, create, post and file written curriculum plans on a weekly or monthly basis.
· Create curriculum based from the emerging children’s interests and the developmental needs of the group and individuals.
· Facilitate the creation and maintenance of children’s portfolios using observational assessments and notes, photos, artwork, dictation, etc., regarding children’s developmental progress on an ongoing basis.
· Promote and integrate developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports Jewish heritage and traditions.
· Facilitate and integrate curriculum that supports anti-bias practices and supports diversity.
· Document the evolution of curriculum and learning with children (charts, dictation, books, etc).
· Create meaningful curriculum based on all realms of learning including social emotional, language and literacy, cognition, and physical development.
· Share responsibilities to create a system that works best between each teaching team (ex. leading large group time vs. supporting).

Classroom Team Meetings & Planning Time:
· Create a plan with co-teachers to best utilize planning times.
· Use meeting and planning time for reflection, curriculum planning, communication with co-teachers, to address individual children’s needs and strategize, set up activities or classroom environment, and any other classroom related issues.
Creating Partnership with Families:
· Build relationships with each child’s families through open communication during greetings at arrival and check ins at departure.
· Articulate child development information in a way that supports a family's sense of competence.
· Show genuine empathy for each family’s perspectives and unique situation.
· Treat family as the expert on their child.
· Maintain confidentiality.
· Communicate with families in a variety of ways such as posted curriculum plans, newsletters, and parent/teacher conferences.
· Be able to articulate developmental stages in children’s development, and how that information applies to specific children in your care.
· Use an assessment tool, as well as observations to share at parent/teacher conferences with the child’s family.
Other Requirements
California State Licensing Teacher Qualifications:
1. 12 units Early Childhood Education / Child Development, including core courses; child/human growth & development; child/family/community or child and family relations; and programs/curriculum – or – Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential - CDA Credential must be earned in California.
2. 2-3 years of teaching experience.
3. Must be able to acquire new fingerprints via LiveScan, that will clear the DOJ, FBI and CAC index
4. Has a current Pediatric CPR/First Aid training; is able to complete the 7 hours mandated reporter training, required by the State; has required immunizations records as per SB792, and current TB test; must be current with Covid-19 vaccine & boosters
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be able to lift and hold up to 35 lbs (child’s weight) and able to move quickly when needed.
2. Must be able to use all cleaning methods and solutions as listed in accordance with Simcha health and safety policies.
3. Must provide a doctor’s note if you are unable to perform any of the above stated duties due to limited ability, allergies, etc.
4. Constantly twist/bend/stoop/squat;
5. Frequently stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
6. Occasionally sit, kneel/crawl, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix.
7. Requires good visual and auditory acuity.
8. Work outdoors on a regular basis, occasionally in inclement weather. Includes caring for animals and plants.
9. May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA, bleach, vomit or blood.
