Patient Service Representative
Job Category: Administrative Support Staff, Patient Financial Services, Patient Registration
Exemption Classification: Non-Exempt Full Time
Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 5:30pm
Description: This position works closely with patients, clinical teams, and the business office on accurately checking in, including entering all demographics accurately, scanning in insurance cards and identification, collecting signatures, collecting co-pays/co-insurances/deductibles, outstanding balances, and checking out patients.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure patients have a positive experience during their visit, whether in-person, Telehealth and/or over the phone.
- Communicate regularly with clinical staff to ensure patients in the office needs are met. Collaborate with team to create a positive patient experience.
- Greet patients and complete established check in procedures according to check in protocols. Responsible for registration, entry of patient information and insurance verification.
- Collect co-pays/co-insurance/deductibles, and outstanding balances.
- Responsible for checking patients out and scheduling follow up appointments and communicating necessary items at time of checkout.
- Answer phone calls and email inquiries from patients in a timely manner, direct or escalate inquiries when needed. Contact patients for appointment reminders or scheduling purposes.
- Complete clerical task including but not limited to distributing mail and report, filing, scanning, scheduling, data input, management of electronic fax inbox and general support to all office personnel.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient data and stay up to date with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications:
- Experience Preferred: one year of administrative experience in a healthcare related setting
- Education Preferred: Associate degree (Science or Arts)
- Spoken Languages Preferred: English / Spanish (Fluently)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills; as well as interpersonal relationship building abilities.
- Strong organizational and brand communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, manage time affectively, and respond in a timely manner to patients and or visitors.
- Strong knowledge of HIPPA guidelines, understanding of patient privacy, and the ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently in a team environment, and able to lead by example.
- Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft office, and understanding of electronic health record (EHR).
