About us

The Clear Creek Amana School District covers over 175 square miles of beautiful eastern Iowa countryside.

Our school district encompasses the towns of Tiffin (population 4,500), Oxford (population 797), Amana Colonies (population 1,600) and includes the eastern edge of the district inside the city limits of Coralville and North Liberty. We draw students from two counties (Iowa and Johnson) and a community base population of around 15,000.

We are located 7 miles west of Iowa City and 20 miles south of Cedar Rapids where both Interstates 80 and 380 intersect.

The district serves 2,900 students preK-12 and expects an average of 200 per year for the next five years.

There are seven operating attendance centers:

  • CCA High School in Tiffin (727 students 9-12)
  • CCA Middle School in Tiffin (615 students 6-8)
  • Tiffin Elementary in Tiffin (400 students PK-3)
  • Amana Elementary in Middle Amana (159 students PK-5)
  • North Bend Elementary in North Liberty (385 students PK-3)
  • Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford (356 students PK-5)
  • Oak Hill Elementary in Tiffin (325 students 4-5)

The continued community support of education is evidenced by the opening Oak Hill Elementary in 2019, Tiffin Elementary in 2015, Middle School & High School Additions in 2016, the North Bend Elementary building in 2008 and a high school building in 2009. A state of the art athletic complex opened in the fall of 2009 and the performing arts center opened in the fall of 2010. Each attendance center has a full time building principal. Of the 140 certified teachers, over thirty percent have been with the district for 15 years or more. The staff is caring and committed to providing the best education possible for all students.

JOB SUMMARY: Assist teachers in the instruction, supervision and care of students with disabilities in a variety of instructional settings, including special education, general education and work/community settings in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. Around 7.5 a day.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working with children preferred but not required
  • Post-secondary coursework in educational field preferred but not required
  • Initiative to be a self-starter
  • Intuitive to the needs of the student
  • Ability to work well with classroom teacher, support staff, administrators, AEA and parents of student as part of an educational team
  • Ability to be flexible in assignment given
  • Ability to use good judgment when unexpected problems arise
  • Ability to use office equipment
  • May be assigned other related duties in addition to those listed above

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Any or all of the following duties may apply to a specific associate position, depending on the needs of the student and the operation of the educational setting.

  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees
  • Assist classroom teacher with educational activities
  • Take directions from teachers, building administrators
  • Follow behavior management plans for individual students
  • Maintain students' daily behavior logs
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of students' Individual Education Plans
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials and equipment
  • Perform personal care duties for students with disabilities as needed
  • Prepare and supervise students in bus loading/unloading. May include riding the bus, supervising students, collecting daily logs and implementing behavior intervention plan.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly instructional environment
  • Assist in implementing school-wide and classroom consistent behavior management strategies and procedures
  • Supervise lunchroom, playground, halls, classroom and other assigned areas
  • Clarify and reinforce teacher directions
  • Participate in I.E.P. meetings as required
  • Assist with instruction in the community setting as required
  • Assist students with assignments
  • Reinforce skills taught by the teacher
  • Listen to students read/read to students
  • Chart/graph student performance
  • Organize daily student work folders
  • Prepare attendance cards and reports
  • Address and provide physical and health supports (feeding and toileting)
  • Under teacher direction, implement specific strategies to maintain/increase appropriate behavior and de-escalate inappropriate behavior
  • Supervise students in community/work settings
  • Lift, carry and correctly position students with physical disabilities
  • Perform other activities as required by building Principal or teachers
