Description:
The Optician is responsible for assisting the optometrist in delivering eye care services to patients. This position is responsible for courteous, efficient and timely operations of the optometry dispensary. The Optician is responsible for obtaining a brief history from patients specific to eye care and eyewear needs, interpret eyeglass prescriptions, assist and advise patients on eyewear and frame / lens selection.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area
- Final inspect eyewear orders and notify patients when ready.
- Dispense eyewear.
- Make repairs and adjustments to eyewear.
- Maintain appropriate stock of frames, cases, repair supplies and contact lenses and solutions
- Maintain, in coordination with Optometry Technician the inventory of all Optometry supplies.
- Responsible for understanding eye exam and eyewear insurance and advising patients appropriately.
- Perform visual field tests as ordered by the optometrist
- Perform contact lens Insertion and Removal instruction
- Indicates commitment to organizational values
- Place eyewear orders including contacts from the appropriate vendor and as prescribed by the Optometrist.
- Any other reasonable requests from management.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Expected to maintain NYS Ophthalmic Dispensing license, including obtaining appropriate continuing education credits.
Required Education and Experience:
- AAS in Ophthalmic Dispensing or completion of a relevant apprenticeship.
- New York State license requires.
- Prior dispensing experience preferred.
