DOHERTY NUTRITION: MEDICAL OFFICE BILLER / ADMINISTRATOR (FULL TIME)
ABOUT THE COMPANY: Doherty Nutrition is a quickly growing private practice that provides nutrition counseling and consulting services across four locations in the greater DFW region. We provide nutrition services that range from individual counseling, group classes, public speaking engagements, and consulting projects. We are on a mission to take the stereotype of “diet” out of dietitian and make working with a dietitian simple, fun, and realistic.
ABOUT THIS POSITION: The Medical Office Biller & Administrator plays a vital role and in many respects, is the "face of the company." This position requires outstanding communication skills, a friendly and outgoing personality, and the ability to multi-task autonomously in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
The position will be responsible for managing incoming calls, client scheduling and insurance billing for 16 - 20 clinicians, greeting and signing in clients, and other general administrative tasks. This role will work alongside our existing 2 office administrators and will report directly to our office manager.
This is a full-time role with a requirement to be onsite at the Doherty Nutrition office 4 days per week with 1 day work from home. This role is currently based out of our North Dallas office, but as we grow, this role will have the opporutnity to work out of our other locations (Ft. Worth, Southlake, or Lakewood) in the future.

Due to the rate at which we are growing, high performing individuals will be eligible for roles of increased opportunity as our practice continues to grow. Those could be higher level operation roles or cross functional roles depending on your desired career path. Both are planned for the remainder of 2022 and 2023. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
The Essential Job Functions are:
- Answering phone calls and handling patient calls as appropriate
- Scheduling and confirming patient appointments
- General knowledge of plan types - HMO, PPO, POS, EPO
- General knowledge of CPT and ICD10 diagnosis codes
- Recognize issues with patient coverage (out of network coverage, inactive insurance, wrong PCP)
- Authorizations on file - verifying auths are current and under the appropriate dietitian
- Ensuring all documents are received prior to client appointments
- Managing of practice schedule
- Greeting patients/checking-in and checking-out patients
- Verifying insurance eligibility
- Documenting in electronic medical records (EHR)
- Managing the fax inbox, referral portal, and voicemails
- Follows up with patients to reschedule any missed appointments
- Referrals - identify when a referral is required and reach out to appropriate referring physician
- Meet productivity standards to ensure benefits are completed in a timely manner
ABSOLUTE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must LOVE to converse, listen, and engage in conversation with others.
- Must be talkative, engaging, and exude positivity - this is a people person role.
- Must be highly motivated to go the extra mile and focused on career advancement.
- Must be comfortable with startup culture - being flexible and OK with continuous change is critical.
- 2+ years of professional work experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS:
- 4+ years of medical office experience
- 2+ year of hands-on insurance claim / billing experience
- Understanding of how to read an Explanation of Benefit (deductible/copay/coinsurance)
- Medical billing certification
- Associates degree or higher
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS:
- Exceptional autonomous skills – can perform a job successfully with little direction
- Exceptional prioritization skills – knows what needs to be done first and what can
- Openness to working Saturdays - either intermittent or partial workdays. Note this is not a requirement, but candidates who are open to this will stand out.
- While not required, candidates who speak English and Spanish fluently are a plus!

- Work may involve prolonged periods of sitting, standing, lifting, bending, reaching and the ability to push or pull items weighing 30 pounds or less
- Required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor
