Medical Coder

You would maintain review and analyze health records ensuring that the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes are applied to individual patient health information.

What you can offer us

• Translate healthcare provider’s initial diagnostic and procedural orders into coded form extracting and analyzing information from medical records
• Identify discrepancies and record diagnosis and assigned codes into databases and route diagnostic sheet
• Update diagnoses and services provided to patients while in the facility
• Maintain current knowledge of updates to International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition, Clinical Modification, Current Procedural Terminology, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System codes and guidelines, compliance rules, and government regulations
• Educate providers and other staff on updates to coding changes
• Verify physician medical consultation, dental, EKG, X-ray, and laboratory billing sheets
• Provide coded analysis upon patient discharge, review patient chart for completion, and route notices for incomplete records to staff members
• Assist with audits
• Retrieve records eligible for archival and scan into electronic document format

What you need

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Two years of job-related college or technical school in medical coding, health information technology, or closely related field
• Two years of experience working in a healthcare setting with medical records, medical terminology, data entry, or a related field
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) status preferred

Salary: $ 17.64 Hourly
