Position Summary
The Material Planner manages the supply levels for the manufacturing operations. Responsible for forecasting supply needs and ensuring materials is always on hand. This position focuses on vendor management, sourcing raw materials needed to produce products. Assists with contract negotiations with suppliers, submits purchase orders, and expedites orders when necessary. Utilizes MRP and SAP software in the material planning process.
Responsibilities

  • Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.
  • Arrange for delivery, assembly, or distribution of supplies or parts to expedite flow of materials and meet production schedules.
  • Plan production commitments or timetables for business units, specific programs, or jobs, using sales forecasts.
  • Compile information, such as production rates and progress, materials inventories, materials used, or customer information, so that status reports can be completed.
  • Record production data, including volume produced, consumption of raw materials, or quality control measures.
  • Establish and oversee manufacturing capacities and capabilities, reporting and communicating to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain efficient inventory levels to support lean manufacturing.
  • Maintain and interpret customer and supplier forecasts for given time periods.
  • Plan, organize, and guide purchasing to order direct/indirect materials to support ongoing manufacturing initiatives.
  • Design, implement, manage, and monitor procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements.
  • Assign procurement requests to the appropriate personnel.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in business or logistics.
  • 3-5 years of supply chain, purchasing, or inventory management experience.
  • Supply chain and vendor management experience.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing facilities.
  • Strong negotiation and forecasting skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of SAP strongly preferred.
  • Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
