Summary: The Maintenance Superintendent directs the maintenance programs and processes of the plant to ensure timely, safe and effective production. The Maintenance Superintendent leads, manages, trains and works with the Maintenance team in achieving business objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance department.
- Evaluates systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
- Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas and air required for operations.
- Develops and maintains preventative maintenance of equipment and maintenance of facility.
- Plans work assignments and project schedules. Reviews job orders to determine work priorities.
- Schedules repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools, equipment in conjunction with maintenance staff to ensure continuous production operations.
- Reviews production, QC and maintenance reports to plan and modify maintenance activities.
- Plans, develops and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations and minimize operating costs and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
- Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with product development team.
- Ensures maintenance and repair work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Coordinates communications with the Safety, Health and Environmental Department and provide information as required to comply with government regulations and company standards.
- Assists with departmental budget estimates and costs of specific repair projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least ten years of maintenance and supervisory experience in a food manufacturing facility required.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
- Knowledge of utility systems including ammonia refrigeration, boiler and waste water.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify issues and determine repairs that are needed.
- Ability to plan maintenance schedules for building systems.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plan regulatory requirements, program implementation, and compliance oversight.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to work flexible schedule to include days, afternoons, midnights, and weekend work.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to traverse property and facility to diagnose building issues and plan repairs or maintenance.
- Must be physically able to work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
- Must pass post-offer background screening and physical examination.
