Highland Baking Company seeks hard-working, motivated, go-getter candidates to fill the Maintenance Engineer position. The technician is expected to proactively assist operation personnel as needed in daily activities to meet organizational objectives. The Maintenance Engineers are vital to our organization, ensuring that our customers receive quality products on time by making sure our machines work properly and efficiently using proactive and preventative methods.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for diagnosing and repairs in a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment including, but not limited to, process equipment, robotics, boiler systems, compressed air systems, refrigeration systems, sanitation equipment, HVAC units, and all other assigned equipment.
  • Maintains accurate, legible, and timely records of work performed on work orders, parts requests, inspections, and preventive maintenance documents.
  • Responsible for keeping the equipment manual room always organized by returning manuals to their proper location. You also need to keep the manuals clean and in good condition.
  • Responsible for always keeping your toolbox and uniform locker clean and organized.
  • Responsible for always keeping the shop clean and organized.
  • Responsible for preventing loss or injuries by ensuring to follow of all policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Responsible for always following lockout tag-out procedures.
  • Responsible for always following all mechanical and electrical troubleshooting safety procedures.
  • Responsible for always following all welding and fabricating safety procedures.
  • Responsible for following all safety procedures as well as specific procedures dealing with heavy equipment and hazardous materials.
  • Communicating with department managers, leaders, peers, and operators of repairs needed resolution plans and back in-service estimation must be done in a timely manner.
  • Displays initiative in recognizing work to be done and clear judgment in helping with troubleshooting and recommending repairs.
  • Responsible for all other duties as assigned.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • The Mechanical/Electrical Technician will need to have strong troubleshooting skills mechanically and electrically to resolve or repair issues quickly. You will need to have a strong eye for technical specifics and potential trouble spots. You will also need to be flexible, as you will often be required on the weekends.
  • Must possess strong organizational problem-solving along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Need to be detail-oriented who can meet deadlines and work with diverse employees. You must respect all employees and be willing to train your fellow peers. You must possess the ability to work independently, with good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Responsible for reporting all safety issues to your manager in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Including Highland Baking Company's Current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Knowledge of safe practices.
  • Ability to use or drive various equipment, including maintenance hand and power tools.
  • Involved in department inspections, including Third Party Audits, City, State, and Federal inspections, and internal audits when needed.
  • Able to follow and execute instructions.

  • Employees are expected to work weekends and overtime.

Physical Demands

The position requires regular physical activity such as reaching, bending, twisting, squatting, lifting 50 pounds or more, and walking/standing within and around the site for a minimum of 8-12 hours daily.

Work Environment

Employees will be working next to large ovens with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees in the summer.
