OPPORTUNITY: Landscape Superintendent in North Chicago, IL (Near Gurnee)
Chalet’s Landscape Division in North Chicago, IL has an opportunity for a Landscape Superintendent to join our Production Department. The Superintendent reports to the Director of Production and will partner with the balance of the team (Project Managers, other Superintendents, and crews) to ensure that we install design/build jobs according to plans within the budget and meeting our customers’ expectations.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage, Train, & Develop Crews – Responsible for the safety, performance and well-being of foremen, lead men, and laborers on our crews. Dispatch and assign tasks to crews. Assist in scheduling work for crews. Approve daily time tickets. Work to maximize efficiency and productivity. Provide training and constructive feedback. Coach and mentor Assistant Superintendents and crew members. Embody leadership and hands-on training philosophies, demonstrating a strong work ethic through leading by example. Enforce company policies as necessary.
- Supervise Landscape Construction Jobs – Track and account for materials taken for jobs. Train foremen to record and account for materials properly. Visit job sites and layout site from landscape plan. Create, read, and implement construction details. Oversee quality of work and adherence to plans. Recommend modifications based on field conditions. Coordinate change orders. Track punch lists to ensure all tasks are completed. Monitor time and materials to adhere to budgets and deadlines. Build and maintain job files. Communicate with customers and team members throughout the entire project.
- Support of Crews – Deliver materials and tools to crews on job sites. Make small repairs on cable lines, irrigation lines, and assist crews with work as needed. Be readily available for questions from crews and sales staff via phone or text.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Previous experience in landscape construction, landscape design/build, residential project management, installation management, site supervision, or construction management. Experience in a variety of the following areas is ideal: hardscaping techniques, carpentry, masonry, lighting, irrigation, planting, large and small equipment operation, estimating, and/or horticulture.
- A two- or four-year degree in a related field or CLT certification is preferred.
- Strong plant identification and knowledge.
- Experience managing projects, supervising crews, and training.
- A proactive and rational problem-solver with an ethical and trustworthy approach that has a track record for establishing long term customer relationships and fostering collaboration among staff.
- “Fast-on-your-feet”, organized, accountable, and decisive, with the ability to juggle and manage multiple projects, multiple customers, and changing priorities. A gift for balancing the big picture with all of the details along the way.
- A hands-on approach to getting things done with an outgoing, can-do attitude.
- Ability to review construction documents & plat of surveys with a strong knowledge of the practicality of the outdoor built environment.
- Computer literate. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Have and maintain a current driver’s license and be able to lift 50+ lbs.
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
This is a full-time, year-round position that will work 5-6 days in the busy season, and a 4-day work week in the off season. Our benefits and compensation package includes base salary, medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, paid time off, holidays, and 401(k) with match.
