POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervise and lead Crew Members offsite by following standard Mariani work methods and practicing safe work habits to ensure production of the crew is as efficient and safe as possible. Support individual Crew Members and Crew Leaders-in-Training to effectively and efficiently perform the functions of their jobs to increase production and maintain client satisfaction on all levels. Typical crew size is 3-4 Crew Members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure Crew Members understand and follow company policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Act as a resource and liaison to Mariani clients while at the job site.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new and current Crew Members and Crew Leaders in Training.
  • Coordinate all work activities at the job site with respect to timeframe, safety, and skills and capabilities of individual Crew Members
  • Monitor quality of all work performed by the crew and provide guidance and correction as necessary.
  • Communicate problems, client concerns, associate matters, etc. to the Construction Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Participate in weekly safety and training meetings and communicate the information to the crew after each session.
  • Secure tools and equipment necessary for each job, including proper safety equipment.
  • Ensure all members of the crew are following proper safety procedures and standards regularly.
  • Participate in the work performed at each job site, such as hand pruning, shear pruning, edging, watering, cultivating and weeding; delegate necessary tasks.
  • Perform work using proper tools and equipment, including 36” mower, 21” mower, and line trimmer.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner and ensure accuracy of all paperwork, including timesheets for individual crew members, receipts of materials, etc.
  • Participate in all necessary Mariani training with relation to equipment and safety.
  • Arrive for each work day on time and prepared, including dressed in the appropriate Mariani uniform.
  • Perform all driving duties for the crew in a Mariani vehicle (i.e. drive crew to the jobsite, between jobsites, and return trip to the Mariani facility at the end of the workday).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 3 years experience in the landscape industry, preferably in a maintenance/garden environment.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
  • Ability to speak and communicate (verbal and written) in English.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills with crew, clients, and other Mariani associates, including the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate acceptable level of basic plant recognition and horticultural knowledge.
  • Posses a valid Illinois “Ornamental Turf Pest Control” Operator License, or in the process of achieving the license.
  • Ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of equipment operation, including but not limited to, all lawn equipment (mowers, trimmers, pruning shears, etc.)
  • Demonstrate accountability for work being performed and completed on schedule.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others and delegate tasks.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety and practicing safe work behaviors.
  • Demonstrate a safe driving history, including the operation of Mariani vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. on occasion, and frequently transport plant material around the job site up to 50 lbs. Physical requirements also include lifting, bending, walking, carrying, and pushing (i.e. lawnmower) on a repetitive basis. This position works outdoors in various whether conditions. The noise level at the job site may be loud when operating certain equipment, such as a lawnmower or backpack blower. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to client needs and deadlines.
