General Summary: The IT Manager manages all technology support aspects of a small/mid-size manufacturing business, including the hardware and software needs of the company. This is an on-site position that is responsible for developing and successful execution of IT goals and strategy that is aligned with business objectives. The position maintains essential IT infrastructure, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware. Additionally, the position is responsible for projects and solutions within the larger business initiative, handles business-critical IT tasks and systems administration; researches and evaluates emerging technologies, hardware, and software. Last, the position assists in the budgeting and forecasting process of technology-related resources and ensures that all assigned projects are developed and completed with quality and timeliness.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Manages and coordinates all IT-related matters including data, wireless communications, mobile technology, telephony, security and computer hardware and software.
- Monitors network utilization and performance, implements procedures on network optimization, reliability, and availability.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and support of all hardware, software, and network components.
- Assist company to establish, document, execute, and implement direction, policies, operating procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with industry and company initiatives related to IT and other cybersecurity requirements.
- Maintains stable network and IT infrastructure. Identify risks and recommend mitigations.
- Analyzes the needs of functional departments (e.g. manufacturing, finance, engineering, marketing & sales, human resources, etc.) and establishes IT project priorities. Coordinates with functional departments to define system requirements, techniques, and controls.
- Assists with financial responsibilities for the information technology, including capital expenditures.
- Management of help desk/desktop and other business system resources to deliver professional, effective, and customer-focused support to all employees. This includes development and management of service levels, trouble ticketing, committed response times, and communication with employee.
- Replace items as needed in the infrastructure on a predetermined schedule eliminating end of life, obsolescence, and poor reliability issues.
- Manages disaster recovery program, systems backups, offsite storage, etc.
- Proven ability to secure and protect company information, data and systems and experience with security best-practices, security awareness and user training.
- Manage development projects to integrate new technologies and process with existing systems.
- Tracks and maintains all hardware and software inventory.
- Selects, develops, and evaluates IT staff. Directs the activities of the staff.
- Performs additional assignments as requested by V.P. of Finance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is required.
- IT experience in a small to mid-size manufacturer
- Minimum of five years progressive experience in information technology field – including daily business systems and networks.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, problem-solving, analytical and communication skills
- Ability to determine and utilize resources to meet schedules and functional goals.
- Infor Mapics ERP a plus
- Experience with Microsoft365 and Azure.
- General knowledge of cloud backup solution.
- Experience managing on-premises servers.
- Positive can-do attitude.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Experience in analysis, implementation, and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications.
Areas Supervised:
- Systems, PC support and network staff
Scope Data (budget accountability, operating revenues, organizational unit responsibility, number of employees supervised, other pertinent numeric data):
- Manages IT annual operation budget of approximately $1 million.
- Directly supervises one to two employees.
- Establishes information system objectives and networks to support organization’s overall business goals.
Description of physical working environment:
- Normal office environment – sitting at computer with repetitive computer use. Uses phone frequently.
- Visits manufacturing floor area frequently. (i.e. computer terminals on floor, backup tapes, etc.)
- Occasional domestic travel required.
