QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Associates degree in property management or human services related degree preferred, all combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work independently following established policies and procedures, including emergency situations.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain records in an organized system.
  • Must be able to work with assigned client management system (HMIS) and other assigned data base systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client and staff information and records.
  • Must possess a valid PA Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain all child abuse clearances.
  • Ability to be flexible as well as receive, understand, and communicate information with effectiveness, and follow instructions.
  • Job related physical including drug test (scheduled and paid for by the Union Mission).
  • Physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing listed duties and responsibilities.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The job of the Housing Support Specialist (HSS) supports and encourages the residents of Union Mission supportive housing programs to follow through with their lease agreements as assigned. The HSS is integral to the operations of the program and is specifically responsible for identifying and coordinating scheduling of needed repairs, see through the completion of repairs. The HSS ensures program properties are clean when an individual moves out, being responsible for coordinating the storage of furniture, interacting with public municipalities, confirming properties are secure (i.e. working locks). The HSS is responsible for inspecting assigned properties using HUD standards ensuring the buildings are secure and residents are safe, certifying properties have functioning smoke detectors and light bulbs, ordering furniture. The HSS is also responsible for maintaining records concerning rental payments, agreements, etc. Additionally, the HSS collects rents and residential fees as prescribed by Union Mission policy. Employment includes working as a team with case management and administration to ensure residents remain successfully housed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage assigned programs and leased units within the scope of the rules and policies of the Mission, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other directives as given by the Program Manager and leadership team
  • Conduct property inspections as needed, based on the HUD Housing Quality Standards and ESG habitability standards check list.
  • Professionally communicates and collaborates with case management and administrative staff on the housing conditions of the units, property deficiencies and other observations and recommends action according to the Mission and HUD policies.
  • Responsible for detailed record keeping to include the collection of rents and residential fees, corresponding letters with residents, compiling reports, and perform necessary typing.
  • Fields phone calls, maintains program files, and coordinate with callers regarding, donations, general questions, policies, etc.
  • Assists in the administration of property management as needed which will include, but not limited to: bidding for acquisition of repairs, supplies or small furniture; assisting with intake/exit quality control; overseeing and coordinating routine and repair maintenance to rental units.
  • Through a team approach coordinates with Provide support and encouragement to the residents and attend to any problems.
  • May be required to provide transportation to clients as needed and appropriate.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
