Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conveying and carrying out the Library’s Mission, planning objectives and Core Values
  • Assists with personnel interviewing and selection
  • Acts as supervisor-in-charge as needed when Director and other department heads are out of the office

Support Services Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages Circulation Service Desk including keeping staff informed, maintaining reference sources and procedural documentation, and responding to patron issues
  • Manages materials processing
  • Supervises, trains, and directs the work of support services staff (circulation and processing staff)
  • Prepares staff schedules in cooperation with other department heads
  • Manages and reconciles incoming cash, credit and debit card transactions, revenue receipts and Income Tracking spreadsheets
  • Oversees running of assumed lost, missing, and in-transit reports
  • Completes sections of the State of Michigan Annual Report for State Aid related to support services
  • Orders supplies and manages Operating Supplies budget, exercising budget efficiency
  • Attends Leadership Team meetings, staff meetings, TLN Shared System Users Group meetings, TLN Circulation Committee meetings, other professional meetings, and workshops for continuing education
  • Other duties as assigned

Youth Services Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the administration of Youth Services, ensuring operational and budget efficiency
  • Manages youth and teen materials budget
  • Supervises the planning, preparation, and presentation of programming for youth and teens including story time, the summer reading program and other programs
  • Evaluates, assesses, and implements new youth service objectives and programs
  • Oversees the selection of materials for the teen collections
  • Manages outreach to local schools, ensuring good communication
  • Seeks partnership opportunities with community organizations
  • Selects, develops and maintains juvenile, parent/teacher and youth professional collections
  • Ensures that support staff attend staff meetings, professional meetings and workshops for continuing education
  • Reviews grant proposals seeking funding designed to aid, enhance or create library service programs or assets
  • Manages volunteers for youth programming as needed to provide excellent service and programming
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school
  • Eligible for Michigan Public Library Certification
  • At least one year of experience in a public services position in a library; supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable about the philosophy and techniques of public library services
  • Ability to set priorities and work with frequent interruptions
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly responsive and has clear oral and written communication skills
  • Embraces change in work environment, procedures and services
  • Good organizational skills; able to prioritize duties and tasks, work independently and assume responsibility
  • Knowledge of children’s and teen literature and AV materials
  • Skill in planning and presenting programs for children and young adults
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relations with children, their caregivers, and other professionals who work with children
  • Delivers consistently friendly, attentive, welcoming, high quality customer service to patrons of all ages
  • Proficiency in automated computer programs including use of databases, MS Word, Excel, Publisher and Power Point required; experience with an integrated library system preferred
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with library staff and volunteers in a team environment
  • Ability to produce neat, accurate and timely work within an established time frame
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to lift and push up to 25 pounds

Hours: 40 hours/week. Days, evenings, and some weekend shifts.

Salary: $56,370/year
