The State of New Hampshire, Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Forest and Lands, has a full-time vacancy for a Forester I, to work out of our Fox Forest Research Center, located in Hillsborough, New Hampshire.
Summary:
To plan and conduct forest health monitoring programs within the Division of Forests and Lands in cooperation with other state, federal, and provincial partners. To provide technical assistance, information programs and training to public and private cooperators.

Responsibilities:

Develops and implements statewide surveys on public and private forest lands to evaluate statewide forest health. Processes and analyzes data for state level forest health projects.

Conducts insect pheromone surveys and a variety of monitoring projects to create data reports and presentations to provide technical support related to forest health issues for resource professionals and the public.

Prepares and conducts training sessions for resource professionals in the field of forest health monitoring, including but not limited to insect and disease identification, mensuration techniques, soil sampling, and aerial survey procedures.

Provides consulting services to other state agencies, federal agencies, and private woodland owners.

Works regularly with such outside agencies as the US Forest Service, APHIS, Canadian Forest Service, Massachusetts Department of Conservation, Vermont Forestry, Maine Forest Service, and the NH Department of Agriculture to coordinate regional forest health monitoring activities.

Inspects properties, monitors pest populations, and maintains relations with landowners and sawmills to prevent infestation or spread of exotic forest pests.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in forestry, forest technology, horticulture, natural resources, or environmental conservation. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Four years' experience in forest management, forestry surveying, survey operation or other phases of professional forestry work.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid driver's license. Positions performing Forest Health functions must obtain a New Hampshire Pesticide Applicators license within one (1) year of hire.
