Future Leaders Institute Charter School (FLI) is a K-8 charter school located in Harlem. FLI’s mission is to deliver a rich and rigorous educational experience in order to develop academically high-performing students with the leadership, character, and knowledge to achieve success in high school and beyond by focusing on a culture of academic achievement, respect, self-discovery, and community. We are divided into a Lower School (grades K-5) and a Middle School (grades 6-8). FLI is organized into three primary departments over grades K-8: Instruction, Student Affairs, and Operations.

We employ a Responsive Classroom approach to instructing our students and follow logical consequences to address student misbehavior across our grades. Every student takes on meaningful and unique leadership roles, responsibilities, and initiatives within the school community, and the Student Affairs team works with our staff and students to ensure that students receive robust leadership training and support as students assume these responsibilities.

Job purpose
The Extended Day Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the Extend Day program (currently only in Middle school, Grades 6-8) fulfills FLI’s mission to deliver a rich and rigorous educational experience in order to develop academically high-performing students with the leadership, character, and knowledge to achieve success in high school and beyond by focusing on a culture of academic achievement, respect, self-discovery, and community. This position ensures that FLI’s Extended Day is seamlessly unified to the regular school day and that all students, staff, and families are held to the same expectations and levels of accountability as the regular school day.

Primary duties and responsibilities

  • Recruit and development partnerships with community based organizations to provide a diverse selection of extracurricular activities/interests that broaden the minds to of middle schoolers to ignite curiosity of future endeavors;
  • Write, submit, and follows-up on proposals that with perspective partnerships to further enrich the extended day program;
  • Manage all aspects of FLI’s Extended Day beginning at 2:30 through dismissal and late pickup;
  • Work with FLI’s leadership to execute a clear vision and annual goals for the Extended Day program and ensure that all Extended Day programs are aligned to FLI’s mission and core values and meet students’ academic and personal needs;
  • Be the liaison of FLI with partnerships and organizations providing enriching or academically rigorous experiences for our students;
  • Oversee the collection of quality curricula map; portfolios and lesson plans for all Extended Day classes;
  • Manage storage of all Extended Day supplies and ensure that an accurate inventory is maintained;
  • Create, update, and distribute students’ Extended Day schedules to the FLI community;
  • Hold Extended Day staff accountable to the expectations set for the Extended Day program and the terms of their offer letters or contracts;
  • Hold students accountable to the same expectations held during the regular school day;
  • Hold families accountable to meeting the scheduled pickup times;
  • Ensure that students who receive snacks during Extended Day do so in an orderly and efficient manner;
  • Support FLI Leadership to ensure that all programming provided during FLI’s Extended Day are of the highest quality with forward planning and strong accountability to rigorous instructional content;
  • Proactively communicate the needs of the Extended Day program to FLI Leadership to secure necessary resources and/or support;
  • Oversee all communications of Extended Day activities to FLI students and families;
  • Assist with all presentations, shows, and exhibitions of FLI’s Extended Day programs to the FLI and external communities; (Exhibits/portfolio’s should happen in tandem with holiday and end of year shows);
  • Track extended day attendance;
  • Contribute to FLI’s monthly newsletter with updates and highlights about FLI’s extended day program;
  • Assist FLI’s Lunch and recess with the support of student affairs;
  • Assist FLI’s dismissal/ regular day and oversee extended day transition;
  • Supervise and manage extended day dismissal/late pickup;
  • Communicate w/ students and families on student progress, including progress reports and report cards;
  • Perform other tasks, as assigned by the Principal;

Qualifications

  • Proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Strong leadership skills with an established track record of holding students and staff accountable to established expectations and policies
  • At least three years of teaching experience in grades K-8 (Preferred)
  • Prior experience, and formal training with Restorative Practices
  • Familiarity with Responsive Classroom methodology and Logical/Restorative Consequences
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Prior experience working with IEP students (Preferred)
  • Conflict resolution experience
  • Prior management experience
  • Comfort learning new software
  • Great interpersonal skills, especially with students and families
  • Bachelor's Degree in education or relatable degree (Required)
  • Master’s Degree in education or relatable degree (Preferred)
  • SBL certification (Preferred)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
