Summary:
This role will focus on mechanical design engineering, engineering drawing review, Bills of Material, model verification, and documentation for small to large scale projects ensuring the highest standards of quality are adhered to within the department. The Mechanical Design Engineer is expected to take ownership of product development, reverse engineering, manufacturing engineering, advanced modeling software management, and proprietary tooling development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Designing/reverse engineering simple to complex assemblies and components, creating drawing packages and proposals for the product manufacturing to support the development of a final product.
- Conducting and participating in design and readiness reviews of technical projects.
- Provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.
- Resolving discrepancies in drawings or manufacturing non-conformances during the final inspection and receiving process.
- Identify alternate manufacturing methods, materials or processes for obsolete or long lead items.
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions.
- Specifies, designs, analyzes, simulates, prototypes, builds, tests, documents, and releases to manufacturing.
- Organizes, plans, tracks, and resolves design problems associated with product performance in engineering, manufacturing, and the field.
- Produce engineering estimates for completion dates on major engineering efforts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Engineering, Aerospace, or related discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) + years of experience performing mechanical design job duties in Aerospace or Defense manufacturing business
- Proficient in SolidWorks, 3D modeling and creating drawings, GD&T, ANSI drawing standards
- Experience in all elements of manufacturing from build-to-print, sustaining engineering to assembly/integration and test.
- CATIA, Solid Works and/or other CAD Design package experience required.
Required Skills:
- Language: Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Must possess basic knowledge of geometric tolerance.
- Other Abilities: Knowledge of sheet metal and aerospace materials preferred. Must possess thorough knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic. Must possess 3D modeling capabilities. Must have knowledge to apply general use of databases/spreadsheets. Ability to work on complex projects with general direction and minimal guidance. Working knowledge of build-to-print packages and assembly drawing documents. Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and fasteners. Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing techniques and processes, mil spec standards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit 6 to 8 hours a day. Must be able to work with their hands, arms and be extremely accurate. Must be able to walk and sit on a regular basis. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Customary physical demands for an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving high-speed machinery and mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to machine oils, metal fillings, acetone, paints, solvents, grease, cutting fluids, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock or vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
