Ministerial Character:

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish (Santa Cruz - Buda, Texas) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. To fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or laypeople). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.


Positions employed at Santa Cruz - Buda, Texas help extend the Pastor's ministry in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.


Job Summary:

The Adult Faith Formation Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing parish-level opportunities and events for adults to encounter Christ and grow in lifelong discipleship. The Adult Faith Formation Coordinator will coordinate initial and ongoing conversion opportunities, including evangelization, catechesis, and sacramental preparation for adults. The position reports to the Director of Religious Education and operates under general supervision with wide latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Takes leadership in helping the parish to shape its goals and strategies for adult faith formation according to the vision of Our Hearts Were Burning within Us.
  • Articulates a comprehensive vision of adult learning for parishioners at all stages in the adult life cycle.
  • Evaluate, plan, organize and implement parish level opportunities for adults to encounter Christ and grow in relationship with Him as life-long disciples. Includes Bible studies (adults & teens), classes, parish retreats, and collaborative working with parish ministries.
  • Direct comprehensive sacramental preparation for adults through RCIA and Adult Sacramental Formation (Confirmation preparation) in English & Spanish.
  • Serve as staff contact for all adult faith formation.
  • Ethics and Integrity in Ministry Administrator & Facilitator.
  • Maintains a relationship with the Diocesan Department of Evangelization and Catechesis for consultation, support, and resourcing.
  • Recruits and forms an effective Adult Faith Formation Team to help implement the vision and parish goals for adult formation.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule of at least 20 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and special occasions.
  • Attends staff meetings as well at the request of the Pastor/Parish Administrator/supervisor.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of adult faith formation, including both evangelization and catechesis.
  • Knowledge of the six tasks of catechesis, and their application (knowledge of the faith, prayer, liturgy, moral formation, apostolate, community)
  • Knowledge of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as passed down through tradition, sacred scripture, and the documents of the church, including but not limited to the New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE), the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Code of Canon Law, and Papal Encyclicals.
  • Skill in verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Ability to work closely with the Director of Religious Education and the Pastor to ensure consistent Catholic faith formation for adults of all ages.
  • Ability to develop and manage curricula
  • Ability to operate various word-processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with others (staff, clergy, religious, and laity).
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
  • Ability to always maintain respect.
  • Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
  • Ability to communicate the faith effectively in large-group and one-on-one setting.
  • Tends to his/her own ongoing formation through participation in opportunities for professional development.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Training:

  • Degree in theology, religious education, pastoral ministry, or related field from an accredited American university.
  • Or Certification in Religious Education, Director of Religious Education or Youth Ministry.
  • Or Years of Experience working/volunteering in a church atmosphere.


Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of parish religious education experience or similar experience is required; familiarity with principles and dimensions of adult faith formation, catechist formation, young adult ministry, or youth ministry is preferred.


Language:

Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.


Catholic Requirement:

Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.


Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be certified in Diocese of Austin EIM within 90 days of employment and maintain certification throughout the employment period.
  • Will obtain any certifications from the Diocese of Austin Office of Evangelization and Catechesis.
