We are seeking a Local Truck Driver to join our team!

  • Safely operate a heavy or tractor-trailer truck
  • Load and unload cargo
  • Properly track and document activity log
  • Report any issues or incidents to dispatch
  • Inspect truck before and after trip

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in truck driving or other related fields
  • Commercial driver's license
  • Ability to handle physical workload
  • Strong work ethic

This employee is responsible for the safe delivery of pullet feed, eggs, commodities and/or equipment for Nelson Poultry Farms Inc.

Records include but not limited to: Federal DOT Log Book, fuel usage and truck maintenance records. Employee must have a valid commercial driver’s license CDL Class A, with proper endorsements and be able to legally drive. Must have knowledge of the Federal Motor Carriers Regulations and abide by them.

The primary responsibility will be to load feed at the Riley Feed Mill, and deliver to the pullet houses in Clay Center, Manhattan, St. George, and Wamego. The hours are somewhat flexible, as long as the feed gets delivered in a timely basis. The employee must be observant and proactive and communicate with the office, feed related issues that they observe on a routine basis as the individual who physically goes to each site.

The employee may also be asked to transport eggs from the laying barns to the hatchery, feed ingredients from nearby vendors to Riley, manure from the barns to Clay Center, and even the occasional chick or pullet run to a commercial customer out of state, if the employee is interested.

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to sit and drive for up to 10 hours daily and work up to 12 hours.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds routinely over the course of the work
  • day, with maximum of 75 lbs. of lifting.
  • Be able to move the equivalent of a pallet jack of 1000 pounds of material on level floor.
  • Be able to work from low levels crouching and bending to reach low levels.
  • Be able to work from ladders and elevated platform.
  • Other requirements:
  • Mechanically inclined, this is important to be able to fix items on the equipment; lights, change tires, change belts, and to recognize equipment that needs repair.
  • Be able to develop and maintain good house keeping
  • Be able to work in adverse conditions; ie; weather conditions, cold in the winter, hot & humid, high odor areas involving insects and dust.
  • Must be willing to follow the companies safety programs, including but not limited to Lock Out –Tag Out and Permit Required Confined Space.
  • Must be able to work and communicate well with other employees
  • Must be able to manage time and work under pressure. This employee has a high number of other employees depending them to work in an efficient manner.
  • Be able to work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to recognize potential problems, in the equipment, environment by touch, smell, feel and/or sight.
  • Wear personal protective equipment when required.

  • Due to our bio-security policy, NPF employee's are not allowed to own any type of feathered pet/livestock.

Pay to be discussed at interview and is based on experience. Paid Hourly for local miles and paid mileage plus load/unload for the occasional long distance trip.

A Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Pre-Employment Background Test and Pre-Employment Physical are required. Applicant agrees to reimburse NPF $150 towards the cost of these Pre-Employment testing, if they fail to pass the test or fail to maintain employment for a minimum of 90 days. If applicant passes all three tests and exceeds 90 days of employment, NPF will cover 100% of the Pre-Employment expenses.
