Location: Based out of Newport, Oregon. Work to be conducted primarily on tributaries of the Alsea, Yaquina, and Siletz Rivers.

Job Description: What you will do: The employee in this position will assist in field studies on the Salmonid Life Cycle Monitoring Project and Aquatic Inventories Program collecting data on juvenile and adult salmonids and aquatic habitat. Principal duties will include processing fish at sites that trap adult and juvenile salmonids, conducting spawning ground surveys, and conducting instream/riparian habitat and snorkel surveys. Additional duties include contacting landowners for permission, hiking into and along streams, and driving on unimproved roads. Office work will include entering field data into a computer database and mounting juvenile and adult salmonid scales.
This position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This position will include weekend and some night work. This position may be physically demanding. Employees will occasionally be working independently under adverse weather conditions in semi-remote areas.

Requirements/Requested Skills: Minimum qualifications are not established for these positions; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience (e.g., experience handling and tagging adult and juvenile salmonids, operating and maintaining fish traps and equipment, identifying adult and juvenile salmonids, describing channel morphology and instream characteristics, and keeping neat and precise field data) and who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences will be given preference for interviews.

Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check. Driving is required for all positions. Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified or uncertified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist. Adverse background and/or driving information may disqualify you from further consideration.
